The Flying Cook Drops In (5 photos)
Rachel Green, TV’s Flying Cook, served up a treat for our Residents’ Cookery Group when she gave them a cookery session to remember! Rachel and the group cooked up four mouth-watering, easy to follow dishes. Thai Green Curry, Sausage, Tomato and Kidney Bean Fusilli, Tuna Fish Cakes, Spanish Tortillas were all on the menu. Rachel showed them how to make the dishes from scratch, pointing out the nutritional value of each ingredient, and giving tips on the best way to prepare them. Rachel, a Lincolnshire farmer’s daughter, sees this as a way of giving something back: “You have Jamie Oliver highlighting school dinners,” she says, “but these people are the forgotten generation as far as cooking is concerned. I wanted to show them that good, nutritional food doesn’t have to be expensive and that cooking is fun and not at all complicated!” Rachel, who has appeared on television many times, and has cooked for the Queen and Prince Charles, plans to visit the YMCA group again soon for a “Ready, Steady, Cook” type session.
